Trying to do it all on your own?

The Lord says: “I will deliver you out of the hands of the wicked, and redeem you from the grasp of the ruthless.” Jeremiah 15:21 (NRSV)

Sometimes in the midst of many activities, quietness settles on the inside of me. I feel at peace and totally secure—like the lost sheep must have felt in the arms of the Good Shepherd in Luke 15:3-7 and John 10:11.

But most of each day is filled with duties and distractions. Hurry, clutter and emotions poorly expressed or unexpressed cloud my awareness of God. I slip into the wrong plan. I pray when I should act, or I act when I should pray. I discard a perfectly good plan, or I keep a worthless one, wasting time and vitality.

overcome your desperate faith

Alex BurnsI’ve begun to realize that some people have forgotten what true faith is. They have forgotten that the simplest form of faith is the key to a successful faith walk. When a problem starts to arise, we’ve started telling God, “Ok, time for You to prove Yourself to me again.” It’s a voice of desperation that’s clouded our confidence in what we already know instead of being confident and remembering that He’s already left all blessings in our hands.

All hope is in faith. Faith is the substance of all things hoped for. In other words, it’s the manifestation of our hope. Your faith is literally the substance which forces our hope to manifest (Hebrews 11:1).

Sometimes it’s easy to get caught up in our own lives and forget what’s really important: faith. We must not forget how confident our faith was when we first became saved (Hebrews 3:14). It seems we’ve replaced confident faith with desperation. When we find ourselves needing a miracle A.S.A.P.  – and it happens to all of us – many of us are practicing a desperate attitude toward God.
