“If anyone is in Christ, they are a new creation; everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new,” 2 Corinthians 5:17.
My friend told of a dream she had of how she came to feel the forgiveness of God. In this dream she told God that she wished to be forgiven for all the wrongs she had done. God responded by asking her to list those “sins” on a blackboard.
She started writing a list of what she considered to be “minor sins.” To her surprise, as fast as she wrote, God erased the words. In awe, my friend wondered what would happen with more “major sins” or offenses. Almost in disbelief, she saw the same erasing occur. No matter what she wrote, God quickly erased it.
your slate has been wiped clean
Waking from the dream, she thought of the Bible verse above about becoming a new creation and of God’s love—like that of a prodigal’s father. I believe that God welcomes us and erases our “sins” just as my friend saw in her dream.
We can confess all misdeeds and sins, both large and small, ask for forgiveness and know God not only forgives but erases our sins as if they never existed. With our slate wiped clean, we are new creations. Praise the Lord!
